Richard Genest, was the proprietor of the Market and the Cafe, operated the famous and former "Mother Earth's Cafe" in Albany, after moving from Ithaca, where he had founded the ABC Cafe over 30 years ago. He also ran Arthurs for under a year around 2006, enjoying similar success as the market currently enjoys.
Everyone was welcome at the market. All were encouraged to give appropriate gratuities to the performers, who worked only for tips.
With entertainment many nights, You were able to hear blues, classical, country, electronic, dance, electronica, funk, gospel, grunge, hip hop, jazz, Latin American, metal, progressive rock, reggae, punk rock, rhythm and blues, rock, ska, and more.
